Weekly summary July 25th - July 30th 2011
Aquaculture: Ca Mau Province Farmers Union and Ca Mau City Farmers Union disbursed Goby Farming Project for 23 household in Tan Thuoc hamlet (An Xuyen commune, Ca Mau city). Fishermen catching squid at night gain high profit since squid’s price increases. Parasite Perkinsus caused clam’s deaths in 413 ha of 16 cooperative boards in Khai Long area (Dat Mui commune, Ngoc Hien district, Ca Mau province). Farmers are supported 32,500 fish fries in Quang Nam province. Fish farming in cage develops in Nghi Loc and Cua Lo (Nghe An province). Fisheries resources partially decrease in Thuy Trieu pond in Cam Lam district and Cam Ranh city in Khanh Hoa province because of water pollution. The work shows signs of fraud of Binh Minh Cooperative board (Thanh Hai commune, Thanh Phu district, Ben Tre province) in clam investment should be investigated. Areola babylon’s deaths are found in Song Cau (Phu Yen province). Complicating procedures cause difficulties to fishermen when buying insurance for their boats. Scad and anchovy densely appear in Ninh Thuan province. Chia Tai bought 70,8% stocks of CP Vietnam. Pacific oyster is successfully produced and bred in Vietnam. According to Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Binh Dinh province, freshwater fish area tends to expand rapidly. FAO support system established to control aquatic diseases.
Processing, import and export: Tra fish of Vietnam distributed by Cumbrian Seafoods (Seaham, England) was investigated to have illegal substances generally used to increase fish weight. Due to the lack of raw material, shrimp’s price increases in Ca Mau province.
Livestock: Tuyen Quang city Agricultural Extension Station implements Science and Technology project to build an experimental model of guinea fowl breeding and reproduction with biosafety. Price of feed raw material continues to decline. Pork price is still “hot” because of blue ear outbreak last year. Farmer Tran Tan Giang gains VND300 million/year with Perionyx excavatus in 600m2 in Phu Quy 1, Tam My Dong commune, Nui Thanh district, Quang Nam province.
Cultivation: Planting green gourd decreases poverty in Thai Nguyen province. Vendors begin to buy cassava and pepper that haven’t been dried in Phu Yen province. Coffee trees drop their fruits because of rainy weather in Gia Lai. “Bringing vegetable to field” is helpful for farmers in Mekong Delta. Hybrid maize AG – 59 is successfully planted in Muong Khuong (Lao Cai province). Planting Nuptinia oleraceac, each year, farmer Phan Thanh Tien gains VND250 million profit in Hoa Thanh town, Hoa Thanh district, Tay Ninh province. Hybrid chilly Long Dinh 3 is successfully created by Southern Institute of Fruit Research. In Thanh Ha (Hai Duong), farmers partially decrease area of litchi trees since its price declines in recent years. Bat Do bamboos are planted in Binh Duong province. Litsea glutinosa label is being built in Gia Lai province. Rotation nuts and melons is applied in Gio Linh (Quang Tri province). 18 households create a safe-vegetable distributor in Thai Phien (Da Lat province). Khoai sáp brings high profit to farmers in Tan Lap 3 villiage, Cam Hoa commune, Cam Lam district, Khanh Hoa province. Farmers lost as they sold immature sugarcane in Gia Lai.
Fruit: Vinammit JSC has started to construct its 38 ha processing plant and vegetable storage in Hai Duong city. The investment is estimated about VND285 billion. Watermelon has a bumper crop this year, but its price is low in Tien Giang province. Farmers lost in Hung Yen longan harvest this year while longan from China and mountainous provinces doesn’t have same quality. A new coconut disease appears in Tien Giang and Ben Tre province. Guava’s price significantly decreases. Farmers decide not to grow litchi since it is not a profitable tree anymore in Thanh Ha commune, Hai Duong province. Cherry trees are planted again in Tien Giang province. Watermelon’s price significantly decreases in Tien Giang province.
Pet, flower and others: From three years ago, hundreds of herons stay in the 2.4 ha litchi garden of farmer Le Van Chia in Tan My commune, Tra On district, Vinh Long province. Frankincense are attracted intense always. But few know that behind the hard work to seek them is the "ground rules" strict and harsh with blood, tears.
