Aquaculture:

On 7/16/2011, the biggest seabass, with a weight of 40 kg, was caught in Son River in Son Trach (Bo Trach, Quang Binh province).

Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) cooperates with Department of Veterinary of Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to find the cause of shrimp’s death in Mekong Delta.

Anaesthesia becomes popular in seafood transportation.

Tra fish’s price decrease causes difficulties to farmers in Mekong Delta.

Clams’ deaths caused failure in harvest time this year in Khai Long (Dat Mui, Ca Mau province).

Chinese farmers intend to invest in tilapia farming in Vietnam since the weather is seemed to be more advantageous.

The 3% loss of harvest, transportation, and storage cause the damage of 900 ton seafood/year to farmers in Dong Nai province.

Black tiger shrimp price reached its peak on 7/21/2011. Shrimp with size 15 prawns/kg costs VND 280,000/kg.

Lam Dong is the only Southern province having beneficial conditions to develop cold-water fish farming. However, cold-water fish farming still faces difficulties and challenges in this region.



Processing, import and export:

 An Giang Fisheries Import And Export Joint Stock Company (Agifish) gained over VND60 billion from value-added products.

Exportation increases in the first six months of 2011.

 

Livestock:

Though raw materials for animal feed price decreases 5-10%, finished animal feed hasn’t decreased in the market.

Ngu Hanh Son, the artificial mountain in Binh Duong province, attracts swifts to build bird nests.

Bird flu quickly spreads with a new type virus of H5N1.

 

Cultivation:

People in the Northern mountainous region deforest  Cardamon to expand Lysimachia‘s area.

Chinese vendors are hiring land to plant and purchase  yam in Binh Minh and Binh Tan (Vinh Long province).

Yam’s price is about VND5,500 to 6,000 per kg in Kien Giang province. This is the first time the price of one kilogram yam is equal to one kilogram rice.

On 7/21/2011, a giant  termite mushroom was identified in the area that a 3.5 kg fungus was found on 6/6/2011 in Binh Duong province.

VFA stops buying rice for storage. This decision makes rice’s price decrease.

 

Agriculture, Countryside and Farmers:

National Center for Hydro – Meteorology stated that flood began earlier this year in Mekong Delta.

Technology and Equipment Market in South Central Coast & Highland (Techmart Quang Nam 2011) brings useful inventions to farmers.

 

Fruit:

Farmers switch to plant jackfruit instead of other fruits in Mekong Delta.

“Da bo” longan brings high profit, but “choi rong” disease appears recently and becomes a potential threat to this fruit farming.

Vinamit JSC expands its business scope in the North of Vietnam.

Red core dragon fruit is being exported from Ba Ria - Vung Tau.

 

Living and environment:

Fishing villages in Ha Long Bay attract visitor.

Food Safety Act is applied for import products of animal origin from 7/1/2011, and plant origin from 9/1/2011.

 

Pet, flower and others:

Binh Duong Pets Club and Bird Club 1 of students organized “White-rumped Shama I” contest with the support of Ngoi Sao Tre LLC.
