Weekly summary May 22nd – May 29th, 2011


Aquaculture:

Ministry and Departments of Agriculture and Rural Development are inspecting the facilities of black tiger shrimp and white leg shrimp’s hatcheris

Black tiger shrimp has died in a large area of Mekong Delta. Some farmers have decided to breed craft instead.

On 5/24/2011, tra fish is bought with VND 26,000-26,500 per kg, which is less by 2,000 VND since last month.

Farming depending on Thi Vai River is started again their work in aquaculture and fishery in Dong Nai province.

Ecological shrimp farming (shrimp-forest) brings stable efficiency in Tra Vinh province.

Lobster dies in Binh Ba Island (Khanh Hoa province). 3,000 died lobsters below 5 taels are estimated. The damage is about VND 2 billion.

Mr. Struan Stevenson, an influential MEP in the European Parliament, supports for Tra fish import from Vietnam.

Livestock:

Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development suggested reducing imported meat to encourage domestic farming.

Bee farming brings high profit in Thai Nguyen province.

Cultivation:

Using industrial sewage to water vegetable, pesticide causes negative impact in customers’ health.

Safe vegetable in Ha Noi faces difficulties. Though the demand is large, the consumption is weak. Safe vegetable project may be suspended.

Hong Dan district (Bac Lieu province) collaborates with Can Tho University to develop a rice seeds project. The rice can withstand in salinity ten thousandth and is called Soi rice.  

Agriculture, Countryside and Farmers:

Prime Minister approved Ministries and Soc Trang province to celebrate Vietnam Rice Festival the second time at the end of this year.

One of the biggest disadvantage for farmers today is the lack of information for production and life.

Fruit:

Chinese companies order to increase dragon fruit, Siamese banana, litchi, and Nam Roi grapefruit.

Dong Nai is the first province certified Global GAP for its grapefruit cooperative in Tan Binh (Vinh Cuu dictrict).

The Ministerial meeting of TIFA Council between Vietnam and the United States occurred on 5/23/2011. Both sides agreed to promote agricultural products that are complementary to each other.

Raw coconut export from 2010 causes deficiency for processing companies in Ben Tre province because of raw material lack.
