Weekly summary May 7th – May 14th, 2011
Aquaculture:
Tra fish and shrimp’s breeds are lacked. They are in the highest price.
Tien Giang province: The yield of intensive Tra fish reached 300 tons/ha. Farmers made a profit of VND 1.2 billion/ha.
People’s Committee of Phu Yen province develops sustainable polyculture with shrimp, areola babylon, geoduck clam, seaweed in Song Cau town.
Black carps, frogs, turtles, tilapia breeding is promoted in Hai Duong province.
Breeding lobster in cage reduces investment while avoiding risks in hurricane season.
Coldwater fish farming developed rapidly in Lam Dong. However, after five years, it needs to have a strategy to reduce risks and prepare for a long-term plan.
Black tiger shrimp died in a large area in Soc Trang and Bac Lieu provinces. The damage is estimated about thousands of billion VND. Farmers in Mekong Delta face with difficulties.
Thai frog rising in lined pond brings profit about VND 10,000 /kg after 3 months in Vinh Te canal, Nhon Hung town (Tinh Bien – An Giang).
Processing, import and export:
Tra fish farmers and export companies face challenges like the increase of investment, scarce materials and libelous information in some markets.
Exporting shrimp’s price increased over 10%, but the costs to processing also raises 30-40%. Companies face losses.
European Seafood Exposition in Belgium ended successfully. Companies promised to import more Tra fish in this summer.
Livestock:
Forest flowers attract bees to build honeycomb in Hai Duong every spring season.
Chinese mule raising is successful in Lao Cai.
Pork price is high, but farmers don’t want to increase the amount of pigs. The reasons are PRRS existence rumors and unstable market price.
Department of Livestock sent a text about protect animals in hot weather to provinces in Red River Delta, Midland and Northern mountainous region, and North and South Central.
Mr. Nguyen Duy Thuan is successful in breeding Dong Tao chicken. Especially, he can breed purebred chickens.
Cultivation:
Farmers haven’t sold their products because pepper’s price is predicted to continue to rise.
Profit of winter-spring 2010-2011 rice crops is VND 3.018 /kg. However, because average yield and price increase, production is more effective than before.
May 10th 2011: the country coffee’s price increases 100,000 VND/ton and is in its highest price, VND 50.1 million/ton.
Sowing vegetable seeds, or transplanting watermelon in gourd save investment and bring efficiency.
Plastic lined planting watermelon reduces pets, evaporation and brings high efficiency in Binh Phuoc province.
Vegetable price decreases significantly in Ha Noi. Farmers face difficulties and sell vegetable in the market themselves.
Agriculture, Countryside and Farmers:
Coconut-peeling machine was created successfully by two students of Ho Chi Minh University of Engineering and Technology. After 5 to 7 seconds, coconut shell will be peeled.
Farmers gain billions of annual income in sandy area in Quang Dien district, Thua Thien Hue province.
Fruit:
Rambutan in Tien Giang province has enough quality to export to the US.
Coconut’s price increases. Farmers get hundreds of VND million/ha in Dong Thap province.
Despite the inverse crop, fruits’ price still increase twice or three times in Mekong Delta.
The U.S Quarantine Agency licensed the rambutan-growing area of Chanh Thu Co.,Ltd. in Cho Lach- Ben Tre.
Dragon fruit’s price decreased last week from VND 17,000 /kg to VND 7,000 /kg because China had stopped buying this product.
