Aquaculture:
The main black tiger shrimp (P. monodon) crop began, but prawn seed is scarce with high price.
In the early months 2011, the aquaculture activities’ input cost increased significantly. Famers have difficulties in investment.
Because of insufficient supply, Tra fish raw material price is higher than last week 500-1000 VND/kg.
Phu Yen: Fishermen get high profit thanks to lobster seed since half month ago.
Farming season is coming, but clam and scallops are threatened by sea worm in Kien Giang.
Tra fish in Mekong Delta is on the top price, but fishers are still cautious in investment.
According to the Directorate of Fisheries, up to now, shrimp diseases ravage causes damage to about 8000ha, in which black tiger shrimp and white leg shrimp were bred in Mekong Delta.
Processing, import and export:
In the early half of March, Tra fish exportation continues to grow up 6.7% in mass and 24.8% in value.
Viet Nam Association Of Seafood Exporters And Producers (VASEP) reported tuna is one of the major export products in Vietnam. It holds the third position after shrimp and Tra fish.
Seafood exportation in 2011 may gain 5.7 – 5.8 billion dollars, which is higher than the prediction at the end of 2010.
Livestock:
Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development ‘s Minister requires all resources to stamp out quickly the FMD outbreak in April, 2011.
Pork price is in the highest rise. Farmers don’t increase the number of pigs and reduce it because of unstable output and high cost of feed.
Pig diseases are prevalent. Farmers quite their job. FMD (foot-and-mouth disease) and PRRS must be controlled to improve the situation.
Can Gio (HCM City): Breeding hybrid-boar brings high profit.
From the beginning of the year, frozen goat meat imported to Cat Lai Harbor increase surprisingly.
Pigs price in Mekong Delta are in the highest price, from 5.1 to 5.4 million VND/ 100kg.
Ha Noi: Le Mat Snake Village is accredited as a traditional village.
Cultivation:
Cassava area should be kept from 400 to 450 thousand ha.
Pepper price increases significantly. People cut down coffee trees to plant pepper.
5,200 ha coffee trees were planted under UTZ Certified Standard in Lam Dong. The output is 57,000 ton.
Tay Nguyen Institute of Science - Technology for Agriculture and Forestry identified 5 varieties (246, 816, NG8, Daddow, and OC), which can be planted in Tay Nguyen land.
Coffee price rises rapidly. Farmers growing oolong tea are worried in Xuan Son, Xuan Truong (Da Lat).
Cashew production in Vietnam may be only 350,000 ton. With difficulties in materials, export target is hard to reach.
Nghe An Coffee – Caoutchouc Company exported 60 tons coffee beans labeled Catimo Phu Quy to the USA. The value is estimated about 300,000 USD.
Drip irrigation technology brings high economic efficiency.
Cassava and peanut intercropping brings high profit and reduces desertification in Phu Cat (Binh Dinh Province).
Agriculture, Countryside and Farmers:
Although quality of agricultural materials and food insurance are often inspected, violations still happen.
Forestry production facilities for each business must have a minimum area of 31 ha.
Fruit:
V2 (Valencia 2) orange variety is developed in Quy Hop (Nghe An). It becomes a main product bringing high productivity and quality.
Farmers in the east of Gia Lai Province are beneficial from the good price watermelon. Earning hundred millions thanks to this fruit is not unusual.
Even though Ben Tre is the Vietnamese Kingdom of coconut, coconut kernel manufacturing is difficult since the number of coconuts exporting to China increases.

The Institute of Chemistry of the Vietnamese Academy of Science and Technology extracted successfully a liquid from a kind of black ant (Polyrhachis dives Smith, 1857) to apply for medicine.

Vietnamese flower becomes more competitive in global market. It has appeared in the high grade markets such as: USA, Korea, Belgium, Thailand, Australia, Singapore, France, and Netherland.
